Redbull, Kyung, and I drove out and on the way was called by Headkill. The line was out the door. That's how many kids and players showed up for the grand opening. There were over 70 players that day by my guess.

Well over 20 kids played every game. Some games when there were mixed adults and kids, there were 40 players in the arena at one time which was like a slaughterfest. I chose to sit out and watch as that many guys playing CQB tends tends to annoy me. But everybody seemed to be having fun.

Obviously it being the Grand Opening, there were way more folks out today than will be normal (though I'm sure from a business standpoint that's better for GodFather). But crowds like this will be a major turn off for many older and more experienced players. Non-hit calling among the kiddies was rampant, as we had a birds eye view of the game from the observation deck above the field.

The field itself is the largest and nicest looking facility north of AirsoftCQB in Manassas. GodFather did a great job though it's not without problems. The chrono station was badly placed forcing 1 player at a time into a hallway inside the arena which slowed down the registration process big time.

Also the layout of the arena is more for room-clearing training for law enforcement; not for airsoft. It doesn't look like the layout can easily change either (unless they redo their reinforcement beams to allow modular changes).

FPS limits were a little too high (350fps) given that the rooms were small and chained together so that you were typically less than 5ft from any enemy when you entered a room. The lanes really weren't that wide so a 250 (full auto)/300fps (semi) limit would be better served for safety.

Hopefully RJ can post some photos soon.

All in all this was a very nice place that everybody will want to try out. Hopefully we can arrange a private game where we can limit the game size and be more responsible with the play rules. And I hope they can work out the kinks soon.

It was a good experience to view and witness a standard CQB event.

Pros:
1) It was great to see the place had a line filled with kids wanting to play airsoft, some I guess for the first time.

2) The place was pretty big, good for a 5v5 at minimum and 10v10 at most. CQB training for local teams could be great over here.

3) Has a great potential to be a great Airsoft store for the local area.

4) Since we drove over there, it wasn't all that bad of a ride, though I was knocked out for all of the ride. Its about 1hr 30mins from the city at most.

5) Was laughing when a couple of kids got scared to enter a room because an OPFOR was in there.

Cons:
1) I didn't register to play because off the MASSIVE amounts of kids. As Moondog said it was a turn off, as I suspected there were going to be more fowl play than a game with experience guys. Moondog and I were watching some players being hit but not calling them, but that's usual.

2) I've heard that the screen protecting the 2nd floor was flawed, but that could easily be fix. Just to protect the people watching obviously.

3) AEGs sounded VERY HOT. I heard some of those bbs hitting the wooden boards that did not sound like AEGs that are 350 fps...even with my Sordins turned on. Maybe allow older 16-18 year old players to play with 350 fps. Small kids are still fragile.

4) Scooty spotted players with mesh mask. I've always played with full sealing goggles so this really made me fear for the kids health.

Improvements:
1) Chrono station, as stated by Moondog, could be fixed or rearranged. Scooty said that the chrono station could be widen to the waiting area. More chronos means faster the registration. They should have also done the chrono during registration and pay, not before a game started.

2) More refs. As stated, players were not calling hit VERY badly.

3) Lower fps, the AO is still small considering that regular players shoot 350fps when at the woodland fields. Though I don't expect the kids to downgrade their AEGs to somewhere like 250-300. Could be good business for Godfather Airsoft to do the downgrades or upgrades.

4) I heard someone stole a rental AEGs. I'd kick that persons ass for doing that. If I could maybe recommend, paint the barrels or tip of the AEG green or blue (not orange as the muzzle breaks are orange), so it wont be confusing from non-rental AEGs. OR Pink, what kid would look good in a pink sprayed AEG....

Scotty, Big D, Cookie and DRK left to go play at Old Man's because they didn't like the scene today. They said they'd consider coming back after all the hype died down.

First of all I wanna thank the staff and owner[s] of Godfather airsoft to set up such a beautiful and clean space. Finally there are more CQB areas popping out on the map.

Pro: nice indoor heating, gas mags stay nice and warm although it's all snow outside but I was managed to get good shots from a G17.

It has TONS of potential, can't wait to go back when there's little or no kids around.

It was funny, so many LEO/cop dads, each bringing 2 to 4 kids and see them play soldier while they were bored to half death.

Con: too many kids, they divided us into 2 groups, and only 1 group fight among itself [split into 2] at a time, then we had to take a 30 to 50 minute break for the other group.

It would be fun if they had older/veteran fight each other while kids fight each other [with guns]. Because these kids enjoy the whole "hiding not calling hit although I got shot twice with a 3-shot shotgun to the face thingy", I don't blame them, most seem like totally new to this none-cheating thing [they look like backyard-softers].

I went pistol and had much better result because all shots were close and personal, no way to not call hits. But it felt like walking into a little league with a baseball bat and start bashing heads. Fun, but only in a GTA sense of fun.

So in about 3 hours [1 to 4pm, had to leave early], I was only able to play 4 games [about 15 minute max each game]. Most of other time were waiting.

Will go back again when kids are not in the picture.

The kids weren't that bad.

Hit calling was difficult with all of the ricochets off the walls.
If it was difficult for me, what chance for the nOObs?

I see a need for a beginners training course.

Also, get rid of the "safety kills"

The only thing I can think of as far as reffing, would be a bird's eye view over the field like they do in tournaments in the Philippines as shown in videos in Youtube.

I had a pretty fun day, myself. While the facility looks clean, you guys weren't brushing up against walls or posting up on the floor like I was doing a LOT. I was covered in sawdust from lying and kneeling on the floor.

The facility is fairly large, but not really large enough for 20v20 games, like they were running. I did have fun in the last game though, after you guys left. I went commando with my pistols and rushed the other side. Took out 2 with safety kills at first, weaved through the back, killed 2 with side/back shots, killed a 3rd who was in the open, safety killed another around the corner, then posted up while they called for a stoppage of play for some reason. Used the pause to reload, then when the game restarted, ran out and shot 1 more, dived back into the cover (behind enemies the whole time) then safety killed about 6 kids who were all huddled up in 1 room looking the other way, lol. At that point I called myself out because one of them probably would have gotten a shot at me if they were really shooting.

The arena itself is fairly closed off. This makes for some very tight firing lanes and choke points - which can make it hard to move around. Also some of the rooms along the sides are "dead end" boxes - which only have 1 way in and out, which make them deathtraps. Also, the play is setup completely for side-to-side play. This is very short and very wide. I would like to see some variation for play down the whole length of the arena. The middle rooms, to me, were a huge hindrance. A lower wall or more open space would have been much more conductive to shooting.

This is a fairly decent facility. To me it's best for Pistol/Shotgun only games. AEGs tend to put out way too much fire for me to like this in CQB. With 20 v 20 it was constantly POWPOWPOWPOWPOWPOWPOWPOW against the walls.

This list of pros and cons may seem chock-full of cons, but it was opening day and everyone has a lot to learn about this. I'm going to list the cons as some tips to improve play and safety.
Pros:
Fairly large facility
Nice area setup for staging and observation (With lots of seating and tables)
Lots of store area with display cases
Clean bathrooms (Definitely a plus)
Good location - easy to get to
Well lighted and heated
Kept a good mind towards safety - heavy on the chronoing. I did see the chrono officers turn away a few people saying their guns were too hot.
Can be used as a CQB/MOUT Training facility
Can be used for airsoft camps for kids to train for safety, etc.

Suggestions:
#1 - safety - this means lowering the FPS limits to 300FPS with .25 for AEGs. Pistols and 3-shot shotguns should be ok for 325FPS because they're harder to regulate. At 350FPS in such close range, I got a couple of bloody welts on my arm and leg. The volume of fire plus closed nature of the arena made telling ricochets from regular hits hard.
#2 - Safety - Mesh goggles! Don't allow them! I saw the kid with the Army of 2 Mask - it had mesh eyeholes.
#3 - Safety - While the chrono officers made sure people were chronoed, I didn't notice any particular check for chrono tags when everyone went in to play. I don't think this was a big issue but some of those shots I took felt really hard and those were from longer range.
#4 - Safety - the "dead box" was an ok idea but have one on both sides of the arena. Also - put up mesh on the top and potentially on the entrances for additional safety. The chrono room could have been used as a dead box as well. Also another big thing to me - while they require you to pull out mags and put on barrel condoms in the dead boxes, there are still live rounds in the guns. A couple of clearing shots as you walk in (towards the ground) would be good.
#5 - Training Kids - A lot of the kids there today didn't know how to play. A lot of times when I was advancing in the back of obstacles and there were "dead" kids walking back, i would come around the corner (they would have their hands up) and they would be nearly crap-your-pants surprised and freeze. Experienced players will have enough fire discipline to not shoot in those situations. Some additional training for kids would be good.
#6 - Speed of play. The games were fairly slow to jump off. Chronoing took a long time due to there being only 1 chrono. Yes, there were a lot of people, but when you have large events, you have multiple chronos and chrono stations. Setup a chrono in one of the windows of the boxes in the back.
#7 - Rental guns - they need to be marked better than just some blue tape on them. Get some RFID tags and door sensors so they don't walk out the door.
#8 - Lighting - The level of lighting is very bright which is good, but variable lighting would be nice as well. Turn down the lights for some nice play. I would LOVE to use my tracer unit in there.
#9 - Ending games - I would notice that a lot of the times the games went on longer than they should have. Add something to the briefing for a team to yell CLEAR if they think it's over. We did that one game and that ended the game. All of the guys were out though and had been for a few minutes. If there's any enemies still left alive, they should shout "STILL ALIVE". In CQB like that, it's not really giving your position away because the echoes would make hard to pinpoint the actual location unless they're close.

All in all it was a good day. I was not surprised with the large number of kids there. I was pleasantly surprised with the number of receptive parents that were there. I referred several of them to the AirsoftNJ website and our site as well. Many want to get their kids into larger, more organized games.

Thanks to the GF Airsoft Crew. It's understandable there were problems with the registers and the registration, but everything moved smoothly after that was cleared up. The free food and drink was greatly appreciated. You should setup a stand in there with snacks and drinks - that's another good source of income for you. Players were getting thirsty out there!

Yeah, big up to them for bringing in pizza and a table of healthy cheese and fruit for the Grand Opening. Too bad I missed the free pizza though.

Since my opinions were already documented, lol, I only want to add that I respect GF for giving the Airsoft Community a forum to play, and more importantly an OPENING DATE, and sticking to it. They had just finished somethings the night before. Hell, the Garbage cans had just arrived in the middle of the day, lol. Once the kinks are worked out it will be a nice place to play. That being said, here are a few Pics:

It's a nice view here from under the bus...I'm all for doing a private thing there. Maybe 300fps with full auto...

LOL, believe me I'd have done the same thing but my ride was having too much fun waiting in line to play.

Yeah, for a private game I'm proposing a strict:
≤300fps w/.20g full-auto
≤350fps w/.20g semi-only or pistols

Anybody who has a hot gun can rent a 350fps shotty or a 280fps MP5K from the field ($10 think?)

I'll duct tape the selectors for semi-only AEG's. Everybody goes mags out and clears their weapons before exiting the field.
